OUR APPROACH
OUR APPROACH
We believe that change takes time, and that only through long-term partnership can deep transformation take place. For this reason, we strive to develop relationships of depth with rural communities around the world. Currently, Conscious Impact works in several communities located in on rural district, Indrawati, Sindhupalchok, Nepal. By name our partners are the communities of Takure, Bimire, Daduwa Kharka, Nawalpur, Aiselu Kharka, Badegaun, Surkot, Dusini, Bagawa, Kunchowk, Simpalkavre and we are in constant communication and outreach to find how our programs may be useful to other nearby villages.
Over the past 7 years, our work has focused on fostering dialogue, trust, respect and understanding. We partner with local community groups to ensure that our programs are truly helpful, relevant and driven by local leadership from within the community. From this foundation, we are building programs and projects that are inclusive, respectful, conscious and effective. We invite international volunteers of all backgrounds to join our project to offer skilled or unskilled labor, financial donations, and compassionate service to the local community.

Following the April 25th, 2015 earthquake in Nepal, Conscious Impact began supporting the community of Takure to rebuild their homes, their schools and their lives. But to serve others, we must first care for ourselves, and there is no better way to connect inwardly and build our own strength than through the practice of yoga. For this reason, each year we invite passionate yogis (of every level of experience) from around the world to join us in Nepal to study with international teachers and to learn from the ancient Hindu and Buddhist traditions practiced in the Himalaya.
This retreat uniquely combines hatha yoga with karma yoga (the yoga of service) and bhakti yoga (the yoga of devotion). We spend our mornings chanting traditional Hindu mantras or in silent meditations. Our days are filled with service work, such as: sustainable construction, helping in the garden, cooking meals or teaching kids at the school. Additionally, we will have two 90 minute yoga sessions each day.
All retreat participants will work hand-in-hand with local community members to support the harvest of rice from the terraces surrounding the community. This includes harvesting, threshing and carrying rice to the families’ homes. All physical abilities are welcome. In addition to the rice harvest, you may also get the chance to build with sustainable building materials, work with children at the local schools and explore organic farming practices that support the community and the land.
To add even more to this week-long experience, we will end the retreat by celebrating Tihar alongside the families of Takure. On this holiday, all family members return to their village homes to receive “tika” from their brothers and sisters - a blessing of love and respect. We will be invited to family homes to share in this beautiful blessing.
This retreat is open to all people of all backgrounds; no experience necessary. We ask only that you come with a passion for service, to yourself and to others. Please register soon as spots are filling up. We look forward to seeing you in Nepal!
70% of your program contributions for the yoga retreat will go directly into supporting the non-profit to implement sustainable agriculture, youth empowerment and community infrastructure projects. The remaining 30% of the contribution goes to food, accommodations, transport and teacher fees.

Yogalution Movement is a socially active, donation-based yoga studio that specializes in community mobilization. The center is best known for 'Yoga on the Bluff' an outdoor, twice-a-day yoga donation based class that is open to everyone, regardless of their experience! This class inspired what would become Conscious Impact's Yoga for Nepal Retreat.
Dharma continues her studies with her many mentors and spiritual teachers, having a deeply rooted foundation in the Gaudiya Vaishnava Tradition, an ancient lineage, she studies and finds knowledge and wisdom in Vedic Sciences such as Bhakti and Jnana yoga, Spiritual Scriptures such as the Bhagavad Gita and ancient Yogic Wisdom of Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras are her biggest influences. One of her many teachers, Tukaram Das Prabhu, whom which she studied with for 10 years, has had a very big impact on the way Dharma teaches Yoga and the way in which she delivers Yoga Philosophy in her classes. Without his guidance, she would not be the teacher she is today.
This year marks Dharma's fourth visit to the village of Takure.
